September Learning: Me and my Family

This month's learning theme is Me and my Family.
This theme helps children understand how they relate to the various communities to which they belong. The more they know themselves, their feelings, their family and their school, the better they will understand how to care and show the same kindness to others.

Weekly Experiences:
Week One: Who is in your family?
Week Two: What are your feelings?
Week Three: Who are your friends?
Week Four: What pets do you have?

Here is the web that maps out the 20 interrelated topics that the children will explore...

When you drop off or pick up your child, please be on the lookout for the visual aids posted in the entryway. Here is the theme web poster which breaks down our learning by day...

Here you can see what skills and concepts we will be practicing on a daily basis...

On the classroom door is our calendar which shows the daily learning schedule...

 Day 1...

So as you can see, Day 1  talks about the "Family Tree". Take some time to talk to your child about their family tree and how you are related to grandparents and aunts/uncles, etc.
Keeping with the theme, here is our bulletin board for this month, waiting for our artwork to display...

Next is two posters that I am excited about. One is our shape poster which we will add to monthly and the other is character traits of a good friend, which we will discuss and add a sticker of a hatched chick with the trait of the month. This month's character trait is "Loving" and the shape of the month is "Circle"...

Finally, take a peek at our weather chart and daily record using popsicle sticks with the weather of the day. The kids will decide what the weather of the day is and the "Weather Helper" will record the weather on the "Today's Weather is..." Bulletin and "Weather Wheel"... finally our weather helper will place the appropriate popsicle stick in the container by the day of the week...

Here is the monthly newsletter, which is going out in an email this weekend...

Painting and Planting!

On this day we painted and decorated little pots and
planted some flowers. The kids did a great job listing the things that a flower needs to grow, like dirt, water, and sunshine.

We decorated our pots with a combination of markers and
paints and then we ready for planting...

Now we are ready for sunshine and a little water...

We continue to water the plants every day and are still waiting for seedlings to sprout. Hopefully we will get some little flowers before it gets to chilly outside!

Letting our ladybugs loose!

So the kids let our ladybugs loose in the front yard today and it was a great experience for the both of the preschoolers, they were so excited! Before we took them outside we transferred them from their ladybug habitat into small plastic containers, so that each child had their own ladybugs to release.
Here are our ladybugs...

Checking out the ladybugs, one last time...

Ready to let the ladybugs loose!
